The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) considers World Cancer Research Day, which happens on September 24.

In 2016, ten international organizations collaborated to launch the WCRD program. Five years later, 89 organizations and more than half a million people joined this global organization that helps raise awareness of the importance of cancer research.

Stand Up to Cancer aims to raise awareness and bring awareness that everyone is connected to cancer. The most widely used statistics by SU2C come from the American Cancer Society: one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer for the rest of their lives, which means everyone is affected in some way or will be.

The campaign featured episodes on television during the World Series baseball games in which fans "fought cancer" on the rise and carried placards with the names of friends and loved ones who had experienced the disease.

Human studies look at the causes and patterns of cancer occurrence and risk assessment. Population scientists, also known as epidemiologists, study patterns, causes, and health effects in defined groups. Human research is highly collaborative and can range from basic research to clinical research.

The burden of cancer:

 

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), cancer are going to be the leading explanation for death worldwide within the coming years. Fast forward to 2030, and therefore the agency estimates that there’ll be 21.6 million new cases of cancer annually and 13 million deaths from the disease worldwide. That translates to one person being diagnosed with cancer every 1.5 seconds and one dying approximately every 2 seconds. As life expectancy increases, cancer is becoming a significant health problem, and we must take steps to reduce the burden of the disease.

Advances in cancer research:

 

In the years to come, tremendous success in cancer diagnosis and treatment, and especially in the quality of patient health, is expected. The current cancer survival rate is close to 50%, but it is still necessary to improve it. Supporting cancer research will help achieve this goal.
