  • Acenocoumarol (Sintrom) slows down the clotting of blood. The effectiveness of acenocoumarol(Sintrom) might increase by L-carnitine. Increasing Its effectiveness can slow down the clotting of blood too much. But you might need to change the dose of acenocoumarol (Sintrom).
  •   L-carnitine seems to decrease the functionality of the thyroid hormone in the body. Supplementation of L-carnitine may decrease the effects of thyroid hormones.
  • Warfarin (Coumadin) that have also used to slow blood clotting. The intake of L-carnitine will increase the effects of warfarin (Coumadin). Moreover, lead to the increases the chances of bleeding and bruising. Let your blood be checked regularly and consider the changing of the dosage of warfarin.
Dosage of L-carnitine supplements

        990 mg of tablets two to three times daily in tablets can be used daily in case of L-carnitine deficiency.

        You can take the dosage of 900 mg to 2 grams of supplements taken in one to two divided doses daily for two weeks to 6 months for the patient with chest pain.

         For patients with congestive heart failure, 1.5 to 3.0 grams of L-carnitine can be taken in one to two divided doses daily for about 34 months.

        Patients suffering from serious kidney disease can takeupto0.64-3 grams or 10 mg/kg of dosage daily for 3-52 weeks.

        2-4 grams of the tablets have been taken daily for 2-4 months for hyperthyroidism.

     In case of male infertility, taking 2-3 grams of L-carnitine supplements taken in three divided doses daily, with or without vitamin E, can effectively treat it for using it 2 to 24 weeks.

         100 mg/kg can be taken daily for four days to aid the myocarditis.

         The patient can take 250 mg of the supplement daily for 12 weeks. Take 3-4 grams of L-carnitine daily during the treatment starting on the 3rd day of the cycle and ends it within 2-3 weeks. Using L-carnitine 3 grams daily for three months has also recommended for females suffering from polycystic ovarian disease(PCOS).

50 to 100 mg/kg has been taken to avoid the toxic side effects caused by the drug valproic acid in dosage divided into three to four doses up to a maximum of 3 grams daily.

Precautions and Warning regarded L-carnitine supplements

There is no reliable information to know that supplementation of L-carnitine is safe to use in pregnancy. Consider being safe and avoid using it. Taking L-carnitine is considered safe in breastfeeding women while taken through the mouth according to the dosage given by a healthcare provider. L-carnitine is given to infants in small amounts through breast milk, and the formula does not have any reported side effects. While taking in excess by a breastfeeding mother's side effects are not known yet.
It is also safe for children when using it for the short term, appropriately by mouth. It can be taken safely through the mouth for up to 6 months.
